Lake-side thoughts: What's a Prius and a Bike Have In Common?

Tags:

prius-inspired bikeA Prius-Inspired bike could change the way I bike. This new bike shifts on your command. Just think it and the bike reacts thanks to a uber-cool helment. The bike is the outcome of a collaboration between Toyota, Saatchi & Saatchi LA, Deeplocal, and Parlee Cycles that created the PXP. Check out the final design on John Watson's cycling/design site.

What's in common is that both are examples of how you can use readily-accessible technology to radically shift an everyday item. Bikes have after all been around for decades in pretty much the same form. Just a few nights ago at dinner we were noting this and discussing what we thought would be the next great innovation for the bike. One side of the group felt it should be a modification that allows the rider to be in a "running" position. This mind-controlled bike is way more exciting. While neither bikes are available today, I'll be waiting!

Whether it's a dinnertime conversation or corporate collaboration, you can find an innovation lab anywhere!

She got the chance this past week when classes were cancelled.

Was was even greater was being a part of a great social media experiment and in on the sidelines to witness a great volunteer effort.

Questions for the New Year

With the New Year finally in I’m ready to commit to New Year’s resolutions. Very simply it comes down to (1) spend as much time as possible with my family, (2) enjoy biking indoors and outdoors, (3) dance often and (4) get answers. The first three are easy because I have control over those (note I work out of a home office, teach spinning and am in a dance group). The last one, now that’s like pledging to lose 30 lbs. You see I want to get answers to some exasperating questions:

  • Beth Kanter's post on the last Blogpotomac that offers really two learnings: 1) a look at a great event format and why it works and 2) reflections on what it means to have great community.I joined Beth at Blogpotomac and she's right!
  • Phoebe Owen's post on nonprofits in the cloud with great tools just waiting for all of us.

And a bonus ... here's a link to Lisa Junker's click links.
